【摘要】:Materialsshippedinelongatedpackagesareliabletodamageasaresultofimpactneartheirmidpointwhenonlytheendsaresupported.Thistypeofdamagecanoccurduringtheshipmentofpackagingofmixeddimensions.Itisparticularlyprevalentduringconveyerlinetransportandsortation.Thistestmethodprovidesameansofdeterminingresistancetosuchdamage.1.1Thistestmethodisintendedtodeterminethecapabilityofalongpackagewithanarrowcross-sectiontoresistimpactnearitscenterwhenthepackageissupportedonlyatitsends.Thistestmethodallowstheusertoselectfromtwotestoptions:OptionAemploystheuseofafree-falldroptester(seeExhibitB),andOptionBemploystheuseofsimulatedmechanicalimpacttestingequipment(S.M.I.T.E.;seeExhibitA).Thetwooptionalproceduresaredesignedtoimpartthesameamountofkineticenergyatimpact;therefore,eachprocedureyieldsequaldamage-producingpotential.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.ThevaluesgiveninparenthesesaremathematicalconversionstoSIunitsthatareprovidedforinformationonlyandarenotconsideredstandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
